you can rewrite the story of who you are at any time.

Let me tell you something I wish someone had said to me years ago: You don’t have to keep living a story that doesn’t fit.

Not the one someone else handed you. Not the one shaped by mistakes, messiness, or moments you wish had gone differently. Not even the one you’ve told yourself over and over again in the quiet of your own mind.

You are not stuck. You are not too late. You are not too much or not enough. You’re the author—and you get to rewrite the damn story.

I’ve rewritten mine more than once.

There was a version of me that constantly adjusted—to be liked, to be accepted, to keep the peace. A version that didn’t ask for more because she wasn’t sure she was allowed to. A version that moved through the world by default instead of by design.

That version served a purpose. But she doesn’t get to lead anymore. Because the moment I realized I could put the pen back in my own hand, everything changed.

Here’s the truth: You’re allowed to change. To evolve. To pivot. To decide the old story no longer works. To want something different—and actually go after it.

You can redefine what success means to you. You can unlearn the rules that kept you stuck. You can rebuild from a place that no longer serves you. And it doesn’t matter how long you’ve been living in someone else’s narrative— you still get to choose a new one today.

There’s a quote I’ve loved for years. It’s on a wooden sign in my house, and I look at it every day. Because every time I do, it reminds me just how powerful we really are.

“For what it’s worth... it’s never too late, or in my case too early, to be whoever you want to be. There’s no time limit. Start whenever you want. You can change or stay the same. There are no rules to this thing. We can make the best or the worst of it. I hope you make the best of it. I hope you see things that startle you. I hope you feel things you’ve never felt before. I hope you meet people who have a different point of view. I hope you live a life you’re proud of, and if you’re not, I hope you have the courage to start over again.”
— F. Scott Fitzgerald

You can start over. At any moment. And you don’t need permission—you just need to decide that your story is still yours to tell.

That’s it. That’s the whole thing.

If this hit home, save it for the days you forget. Or send it to someone who needs a reminder of just how powerful they are, too.
